Villa
Olympia - Corfu - Greece
At an altitude of 250 meters above the sea channel that separates
Northern Corfu from the mainland, the small traditional settlement of
Vigla can be found.
The Corfiots of old named the region where one could
observe from above the movement of ships from the sea
“Vigla”. The name of the settlement prepares
the visitor to the region for the breathtaking view
he will face.
For the past two centuries one of the most
beautiful villas on the island of Corfu has been standing at the edge
of the settlement. The villa was built about 1864 using local white and
pink stone and represents one of the most typical examples of popular
Corfiot architecture of the 19th century.
The owners of the villa, with much love and
respect towards the stone and the wood, have transformed it into a
modern villa, which however, maintains in every aspect the traditional
form of the original dwelling.
The stone architectural elements of the villa, the
traditional ceilings, the antique furniture and the old photographs
which adorn the walls (all of times gone by of past inhabitants and
life in Vigla over the decades) offer the visitor the opportunity to
live for a while in a past world that has unfortunately been lost
forever.
